The apt subtitle of this work is "Solfeggio". Composed in a refined minimal-music style, it requires a flutist extraordinarily adept at new playing techniques and their rapid changes. Held at the strictly required tempo, the work is literally breathtaking. Very fast changes of tongue-ram, notes with rattling, and foot stamping in ever-changing patterns characterise this work. The fast, rattling sixteenth-note triplets always aim upwards, which naturally makes it difficult to achieve rattling noises, since fingers are always being taken away. The surprising conclusion: irregular, so to speak, flickering whistle-tones above the c. Fortunately, the author also allows a selection of the total of 12 sections for "pedagogical" reasons, in order to vary duration and degree of difficulty.
